Meeting report

Summary

A well attended meeting; Garrett Wyse elected as Tramore – Waterford City West Secretariat PPN rep; good WAP SICAP and Recycling presentations; good PPN updates on Older Persons Council (was Age Friendly Network) from Noreen McGrath, FLAG (Donal O’Brien) and Laudato Si (Ray McGrath).

Detail

Meeting (facilitated by Andrea Galgey PPN Secretariat) opened with introductions and highlighted a couple of PPN success stories – Council’s decision to reapply for Africa Day funding and also Council decision to put lists of available housing on their website – both as a result of PPN lobbying.

Catherine Power (Waterford Area Partnership) gave a useful presentation on SICAP, current funding cycle 2018 – 2020 (copies available on request) and this was followed by Tony Larkin’s presentation on Recycling – this generated a lively discussion.

Donal O’Brien (PPN FLAG rep) updated the meeting on the FLAG and funding cycles and criteria. Ray McGrath (PPN Environmental Linkage Group) spoke about the Laudato Si Conference (on Saturday 5 May and co-financed by the PPN). Noreen McGrath (PPN rep on the Older Persons Council) explained how the OPC have evolved from the Age Friendly Alliance and the need to get the word out to communities.

Andrea invited nominations from the floor for the vacant seat as the Tramore – Waterford City West representative on the PPN Secretariat. One nomination had come in before the meeting and another nomination came from the floor. Lynda O’Shea (PPN Secretariat) supervised the election and Garrett Wyse was duly elected.

John Hawkes (PPN Programmes Coordinator) highlighted the work done by other PPN reps including the Purple Flag, Sports Partnership, Transport SPC etc.

Andrea mentioned planned elections in 2019 for the Secretariat, SPCs, LCDC and JPC (in line with the Local Council Elections. Andrea also mentioned that Muriel Tobin would shortly be running a re-registration exercise for all PPN groups.

Any Other Business

Noreen McGrath raised the issue about concern amongst Residents Groups that they were being left behind and didn’t have a voice any more. John Hawkes will discuss with Noreen what the PPN might be able to do.

The meeting closed at 2130.

Anyone seeking further information/expansion etc for any of these issues should contact John Hawkes.
